Royal Pains returns to form

Admittedly, Royal Pains has been meandering a bit in Season 2.   Hank (Mark Feuerstein) and Evan (Paulo Costanzo) Lawson’s formerly-estranged father Eddie (Henry Winkler) has been drifting in and out of the storyline.  The two-episode Cuba extravaganza focusing on patron Boris’ mysterious genetic disease served as a nice diversion; however, left Divya Katdare (Reshma Shetty) sidelined her on more than one level.  I’m not thrilled either with the introduction of the blond, perfectionist, anal doctor either.

However, Episode 6, “In Vino Veritas” reminds me of the reason I started watching this show – fast-moving plot in the luxurious but otherwise banal Hamptons, snippy, sexy (but not too innuendo-laden) dialogue between Evan and Divya, and Hank’s role as a medical MacGuyver of sorts.  I also really like the slow, but sure, girl-girl relationship forming between Jill and Divya – it’s believable and balances the show.  I think the series may finally have re-hit its groove.
